Objectives: Breast pathology and treatments have evolved greatly in recent years. With advances in screening and treatments, the world of breast pathologies has changed for the better. Common breast pathologies include invasive ductal carcinoma, invasive lobular carcinoma, ductal carcinoma in situ, and lobular carcinoma in situ. This poster looks to explore the rare pathology of cylindroma that was found in the breast. Cylindromas are usually dermatologic lesions associated with head or neck locations. Although they may appear to malignant, these solitary growths are typically benign.
Patient is a 79-year-old female who presented originally as chest wall trauma. Work up at that time showed concern for area of calcifications in left breast on trauma CT scan. Breast imaging work up completed with mammogram and ultrasound showing two areas of microcalcifications present in breast tissue. The biopsy of area completed showed initial pathology of invasive ductal carcinoma that was ER-, PR-, and Her2-.
Lumpectomy with sentinel lymph node dissection performed on patient. Largest mass on surgical resection showing cylindroma of the breast. Original testing for invasive ductal carcinoma on surgical resection showing no pathologic features of this. In addition to cylindroma of breast, patient found to have atypical ductal hyperplasia at separate deep mass.
Further evaluation by medical and radiation oncology revealed no further treatments aside from surgical resection.
This patient presents with very rare pathology in relation to breast cancer surgical resections.
